Volunteering in 
UGANDA

Hosting Organization : VC Uganda

Who we are:

• VC Uganda was established in 2013 as a branch office of VC Dublin which is a sustainable development, humanitarian & volunteer organization working with over 30 partners around the world by engaging & resourcing volunteer expertise & other Technical services since 1960.

• In the recent past, VC Uganda has worked with over 13 partners in the East African region alone i.e. Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda & South Sudan engaging over 20 international volunteers to work alongside the local teams while building the local capacities in the region.

• We are a Quality Label approved hosting organization under the EU ESC volunteering initiative.

 

Aim:

• Work with our partner organizations in the field to improve lives of people by improving access to basic services.

 

Objective:

• Increase access to VC in-field technical support to VC partners in the region as a contribution towards local capacity building in the development & humanitarian sector.

Challenges

Hygiene

  • Poor management of menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls resulting in school absenteeism.

  • Inadequate personal hygiene and sanitation facilities

Water

  • Unequal access to safe drinking water which makes thousands of children very sick and at risk of death

Environment 

  • Climate change due to consuming biomass energy resources and constraints of socio-economic transformation

Education

  • Insufficient capacity of schools to provide clean, safe and suitable learning environment, which threatens children’s lives.

  • Inadequate access to ICT and technology due to poor infrastructure and low levels of Internet penetration.

Health

  • High rates of chronic malnutrition, especially, of children and elderly and micronutrient deficiencies,

Social

  • Poverty of households to access the minimum requirements such as nutrition, health, literacy and lack of social and economic support,

  • Drug addiction of children and young people due to domestic violence, peer pressure and household poverty,
